Where did it all begin for this jazz phenomenon, you ask? Samara Joy treasures her musical heritage. Her grandparents Elder Goldwire and Ruth McLendon both performed alongside the amazing Philadelphia gospel group the Savettes, while her father is an iconic singer, songwriter and producer who toured with the renowned gospel artist Andraé Crouch. You could say music is in her soul! Following in the footsteps of her family, Samara Joy started singing in church and then with the jazz group at Fordham High School for the Arts. Her talent was so incredible that she clinched the Best Vocalist Award at JALC’s Essentially Ellington competition, leading the star to enrol in SUNY Purchase’s jazz studies program… and the rest is history!
