Hunter Pavilion At Ravinia
Sat Circle - This Saturday, 11th July 2026 is the evening of the opening of the Hunter Pavilion at Ravinia in Highland Park, Illinois. This will be a unique evening to see the fabulous new building and experience the music of the CSO’s 90 years at this venue with the brilliant Marin Alsop conducting the orchestral part and the young, talented South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim as soloist.
Music director Marin Alsop leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the opening night of Ravinia’s brand new Hunter Pavilion with young, 22-year-old, South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim to perform. The 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition winner, he is Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra having held the position from 2008 to 2019. As music director of the BSO, she was the first woman to conduct the famous Last night of the Proms.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is one of the leading and most distinguished ensembles in America. America’s most renowned musicians are united in the CSO performing the greatest works from classical music’s past and from today’s present as well as a vast array of new compositions. Their repertoire spans from the music of Beethoven and Brahms to that of a number of living composers, including many world premieres. Recent recordings of the works of Shostakovich and Prokofiev have garnered the orchestra numerous awards and accolades. The CSO’s performance at the 90th Residency Grand Opening at the Hunter Pavilion will also be recorded for future broadcast. The CSO has been in residency at Ravinia since 1936.
A trailblazer for women in classical music as one of the most renowned and heralded female conductors in the world, Marin has lead to some of the greatest orchestra’s across the globe. She has been awarded a Grammy for her innovative approach to performing both familiar repertoire and newly composed works. Marin currently holds Residency’s with The Baltimore Symphony and The Orquestra Sinfonica do Estado de Sao Paulo amongst others.
For the CSO’s grand opening of the Hunter Pavilion at Ravinia, Marin will be performing with one of the most celebrated young pianist’s on the scene today, Yunchan Lim. The 18 year old South Korean sensation recently became the youngest ever winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022, wowing audiences with his incredible technical ability paired with the mature musicality that serves as the bedrock for any fine pianist.
The Hunter Pavilion at Ravinia is a beautiful venue located in Highland Park, Illinois. For this performance, the Hunter Pavilion will be set up with several different sections for seating, including seats right on the orchestra level as well as seats on the upper levels.
There is street parking throughout Highland Park and a number of parking lots near the Hunter Pavilion. Arrive early to secure a good parking spot and get settled in for the evening before the show begins.
